Papua New Guinea's Communication Minister, Sam Basil, has confirmed that Facebook will be banned for a month in the country and that during the period of the ban, the country will identify fake profiles and deliberate about the website's effect on the country.
He further said Facebook users posting porn and fake identity would be fished out and that the country could build its own social media website .
"The time will allow information to be collected to identify users that hide behind fake accounts , users that upload phonographic images, users that post false and misleading information".

Basil further added "We can as well look at the possibility of creating a new social networking site for PNG citizens to use with genuine profiles too"
"And if need be then we can gather local applications developers to create a site that is more conducive for Papua New Guineans to communicate within the country as well as abroad.
