An anonymous black woman climbed the foot of the Statue in what appeared to be a protest against Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. I bet you won't want to see the scary picture.
Wait, wait, wait a minute... What was she thinking? Perhaps she wants her voice to be heard by the entire world? LOL. Or maybe she did this because of the written poem on the statue which by reading appears to contradict President Donald Trump's administration where he implemented a zero tolerance immigration policy that led to so many migrant kids being forcefully separated from from their parents at the U.S-Mexico boarder. I'm just not sure why she went that far by climbing the foot of Lady Liberty to express herself.
This is what the poem on the Statue of Liberty reads;
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
The woman who wore a t-shirt that had the phrase "Rise and Resist" started climbing up the famous Landmark on the afternoon. This quickly led to National Park Service evacuating people from the Liberty island. The woman sat on the sandal of Lady Liberty and ignored the police who were trying to talk her down until around 7pm EST when she eventually got arrested.
According to The New York Times, members of the so-called Anti-immigration and Customs Enforcement group said that the woman was not a member of their protest even though she wore their T-shirt.
The woman was seen walking back and forth along the base of the statue and occasionally sitting right under the foot of Lady Liberty. The island was filled with tons of visitors trying to tour the Landmark for July 4.
At about 6:35.pm, The woman was tactically apprehended and encouraged to come down when police officers climbed up to where she was located. she appeared to have surrendered but hasn't been taken to custody yet.
As it is right now, the Liberty Island will remain closed to the public until further notice.
